After successfully breastfeeding my first child for 17 months, I naively believed breastfeeding my second would be cake. After much crying (both me and my baby), trouble latching, and poor milk transfer, I finally reached out for help. I vividly remember filling out the scheduling form on Kellye’s website while squinting through tears of defeat. Kellye listened to my concerns, performed a thorough assessment, and patiently tried to help my baby, Ayla, latch. My daughter was a tricky case where oral ties were not blatantly the issue, so we were hesitant to jump straight to revision. Kellye helped us work on stretches and techniques to improve latch. She walked us through things like chiro care, mouth exercises, shield, no shield, triple feeding, and even a short time of exclusive pumping (to aide in proper weight gain) while we waited for our spot in Dr. Kim’s schedule for a tie evaluation. All the while, Kellye encouraged, checked on, and helped me believe breastfeeding my daughter was possible. We went through with a revision and followed up with Kellye. I’m intensely appreciative of Kellye’s guidance and encouragement during our journey. With her support, I kept moving forward and didn’t give up on the breastfeeding relationship I deeply desired with my newest baby. Now Ayla feeds like a pro. Recently, I was able to nurse her in a restaurant booth as if it was normal and we’d been doing that all along. What a surreal moment. Thank you, Kellye.

What would you tell other moms who are experiencing difficulty or stress in their nursing journey?

For being such a natural event, breastfeeding can be really, really tough in many ways (including emotional). Finding and investing in the help you need is worth it. Sometimes the journey will look differently than you expected and that’s okay. When you reflect back, I hope you feel proud of the work you put in and know you’re an amazing mama.

There aren’t enough good words to say about Kellye and her gift. There’s no way I would have been able to continue my breastfeeding journey without her. From the very beginning, there were so many challenges and lots of tears from me, my husband and our daughter. Kellye came into our lives so calm and kind and made me immediately feel at ease and confident that we will get there. It was what felt like a long journey then, but she was by our side every step of the way. She made me feel empowered and equipped us with so much knowledge. We navigated lip ties, tongue ties, overproduction that caused a whole slew of painful issues, BF sessions every hr for almost an hour, and with all of that I was able to make it 16 months (ending on both my daughter and my preference) and felt like a pro. I felt Kellye’s love with every visit, text and video call. She will always be such a HUGE part of our story. I’m so in awe of everything she did for us that I’ve contemplated a career change so I can help just one person the way she has helped me. Kellye is a Godsend. I’m so grateful to know her and be in her presence.

HOW DID YOU FIND KELLYE AND MILK & MOM?

I was referred to The Woodlands Tongue Tie Center by Kammie Bowen, RN at Nativiti Family Birth Center. She was doing a home visit after Cooper’s birth, and she noticed I was having trouble breastfeeding. We met Kellye during our consultation at the dentist office.

HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH MILK & MOM? SHARE YOUR STORY.

Our breastfeeding journey had a some highs and quite a few lows, but we wouldn’t be where we are today without Kellye. Breastfeeding was rough from the start. After his first feed when he was born, I already had blood blisters on my nipples. We continued to nurse every 2-3 hours, which just meant more and more damage to my nipples. By the time we met Kellye when Cooper was 5 days old, I already had so much damage on one nipple that I had to solely feed on one breast and pump on the damaged breast. Since we were feeding on only one breast that meant I was getting more damaged quicker on my good breast. It got to a point where I had to exclusively pump so I could heal enough so when Cooper got his tongue/lip tie revision, I could breastfeed him again. With the help and support of Kellye, I was able to heal and learn how to latch Cooper properly in time for his procedure. She supported me so much emotionally, and she taught me so much about breastfeeding and healing. Since his revision, I have been exclusively breastfeeding with no issues at all. He even latched on immediately after bottle feeding for 2 weeks. She taught us plenty of exercises and stretches to do with him throughout the day in order to strengthen his tongue and suck. Cooper has become a pro at breastfeeding, and I am so proud of us for sticking to it and getting through those hard days. I can’t thank Kellye enough for all that she has done for us and our breastfeeding journey.

As a first time mom I didn’t know a lot about breastfeeding but I did know it wasn’t supposed to be as painful as it was. I also knew cracking and bleeding were signs something was off. I got Kellye’s information and contacted her right away. I felt like a priority when she told me her availability but she could alter some things if I needed her sooner. From the moment I met her I felt as if I’d known her. She was so comfortable and professional in our space. She really put us at ease. My husband learned how to support me with feedings, my little one was calm and Kellye comforted her when she was agitated. After Kellye’s first visit she was responsive and very supportive. I felt as if I gained a new fried. Along the way, she was honest in her observations and shared where her expertise lied. Breastfeeding is much easier now and I know my little one has the best foundation to move forward developmentally thanks to Kellye. So grateful for her.

I was so committed to breastfeeding and had become despondent and depressed about the challenges I was facing. The lactation consultant at the hospital had told me that Zoe’s clicking was actually swallowing sounds. We discovered I had actually had a tongue tie as a child, and my mom had powered through nursing me. So, my mom thought the issues we were experiencing were normal. I had several friends have babies around the same time, and they all gave up breastfeeding for various reasons. Everyone kept saying “just pump.” I absolutely would have given up if it had not been for Kellye. I had no idea how emotional of a journey this was going to be. Even after we had Zoe’s tie resolved, there were mouth exercises and working through how to rebuild her muscles. Kellye made it all make sense.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL OTHER MOMS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY OR STRESS IN THEIR NURSING JOURNEY?

There is hope, and Kellye will help you with both the physical and the emotional side of this. She mothered me through everything from basic positions to pumping logistics to emotional responses and fatigue. She gently nudged me in the right direction when I veered off course, and she was so accepting and empathetic with every fear I brought her. I’m tearing up writing this. Zoe is now 8 months and a great eater! Last week, I looked down and noticed Zoe’s perfect latch (lips flanged, mouth open, chin tilted) and my first thought was to send Kellye a picture and say thank you!

I knew something was wrong with the way Levi was feeding and when we got to the office we immediately felt at ease. When Kellye arrived she watched Levi feed and looked at his mouth. She is not only a wealth of knowledge but so supportive, loving to your little, and incredibly helpful. Levi had a tongue and lip tie the Dr. Kim clipped for us. We left the office breathing a sigh of relief and with the tools to help our son’s feeds and tongue continue to function properly. We also left feeling encouraged, in awe of how wonderful Kellye and Dr. Kim were to our family, and wanting anyone and everyone to go visit them. They showed us the kind of care that every single doctor, dentist, etc should show any and all of their patients always.

Kellye has been a Godsend & we’re so happy to have found her! I’ll forever recommend her to everyone.

my son was born full term on July 9, 2021 & was sent straight to the NICU due to being in respiratory distress immediately after birth. this is where he would stay for an entire month. the first 2 weeks, he needed assistance breathing, after he got good control of his breathing, a bottle was introduced at 2 weeks old. & this is where we ran into our problem. he tired out very easily & did not want to take the amount of milk he needed, choked up frequently, the nicu nurses even commented on how much of a messy eater he was because milk basically poured out the sides of his mouth. so we’d stay in the NICU for another two weeks because of these feeding troubles that they had no clue the reason behind. his doctors just kept saying he needed to learn how to properly feed without getting tired & choking. reminder that he was full term & there’s no real reason that he needed “learn” and didn’t have it figured out already. his care team consisted of nurses, nurse practitioners, occupational therapist & doctors, who again didn’t really know the reason why he was having these problems.

fast forward to two weeks later, we finally get to go home. he constantly had severe gas, reflux, he would randomly choke up on his milk. & the biggest thing was that I had to fight with him to take more than 2 oz because he just seemed to get so tired & frustrated with feeding. the only way he will take more than 2 oz at once without putting up a huge fight and crying is if he was dream feeding. I couldn’t seem to figure out why.

this is when I coincidentally & finally figured out what was wrong with our sweet boy after 5 very long, hard, miserable weeks of him being home from the NICU. I happened to stumble across a facebook post where someone mentioned that lip ties could cause gas. that gave me the urge to want to check his upper lip just because he WAS so gassy, all of the time. no amount of gas drops or different formula seemed to help. we had been into our pedi’s office once a week every week trying to figure out what’s wrong with him and why he never stops crying & nothing makes him happy. so I check under his top lip & it looked JUST like the pictures on Google that I found when I searched lip ties. I instantly felt a huge relief that we might FINALLY have an answer as to why he had such a miserable baby. he’d had almost every single symptom I found that oral ties can cause. his weight gain wasn’t terrible but was on the slower side for sure. at 8 weeks old & he had gained just under 2 pounds since birth but it was looked over because he was 11 pounds when he was born, so when they see a 13 pound baby at 8 weeks old, they assume he’s on track because technically, he is in the 98th percentile. we were told it was colic and there wasn’t much that could be done about it until he outgrew it. so after being pretty sure he had a lip tie, Kellye was recommended to me by a friend & I’m SO glad that she was. she has been an angel! she came out to my home & evaluated my son. this is when she discovered that he also had a pretty bad tongue tie & that was likely the cause of all of our issues more so than the lip tie.

we set up an appointment to have both his tongue & lip tie released that following week. after it was done, I noticed a change in him on the very first bottle after getting his ties released. he fed better without leaking, clicking, didn’t tire out as easily. within that week, he went from taking only 2 oz to taking 5 oz! his gas and reflux were instantly gone. it’s still a process for several weeks, but just the fact that I knew my baby could take a bottle without feeling overwhelmed made me want to cry because I was so happy he didn’t have to struggle anymore. I love the way she loves the babies she cares for. I love even more that she told me she prays for her babies during their procedure along with talking & singing to them. we could not have been put into better hands & I’m so glad we found her. when his care team at the NICU completely failed my son, she wasted no time in doing everything she could to help us & making sure we got him taken care of. like I said above, he even worked with an occupational therapist that completely missed it too. I’m so grateful & appreciative to Kellye for helping my baby boy & being such an angel while doing so! she was quick to answer any questions I had & is still answering questions for me almost a month later whenever I have them!

Kellye is the best. My daughter had a tongue tie, lip tie and 2 buccal ties that she was able to help us get released by Dr. Kim. It wasn’t an overnight fix but she worked with us to get my daughter’s mouth functioning at the breast full time. We struggled with latching but she helped us use tricks to get her tiny mouth opening wide. Fast forward a bit. Even with the procedures, I mentioned to her that I had concerns about large amounts of spit up and fussiness during feeding. At our next at-home visit she was able to see that something wasn’t right! With the constant spitting up, rash on her tummy and change in stool she suggested that I cut out all dairy. Not even my own pediatrician could diagnose a possible dairy allergy! Not even a week later and I have a happy camper who can eat at the breast full time without discomfort. Trust me, book an appointment with Kellye. It will change your entire breastfeeding experience!!!

I’m a first time mom and the thought of breastfeeding initially was overwhelming for me. When I finally tried to breastfeed and I was having sharp pain in my right nipple, my son was super fussy and I just figured it was something I had to get used to. Luckily I decided to contact my hospital’s lactation department and they recommended lactationnetwork.com. Thankfully Kellye is the lactation consultant I was connected with based off my geographical location. Kellye came for a home visit and shed light on what was really going on; my son had a tongue and lip tie so he was not latching appropriately, hence the nipple pain and fussiness. She was so knowledgeable and supportive in my journey to get the release procedures and helped to finally get my son eating normally. Now I enjoy breastfeeding and love having that connection with my son. I have Kellye to thank for that!! <3

When I first contacted Kellye, Amelia and I were having issues with latching and nursing. Even though this is my third baby, I had a lot of pain and Amelia had other signs that something more could be going on. Kellye was so responsive and came to us quickly after contacting her. Her bedside manner, kindness, love, and reassuring presence made me feel hopeful. With just a few changes and suggestions from Kellye, things improved greatly right away. She noticed that Amelia had oral restrictions, but she wanted to give it a little time while we did some exercises with her before deciding on revising the ties. A week later, she came back and the issues weren’t fully resolved with exercises so we decided to have the revision. Along with Dr. Kim, who is fantastic, Kellye was there to reassure me on the day of the procedure and to hold Amelia during it. She has walked the walk with us every step of the way. She continues to check on us and to reassure us that everything will be okay. Everyone needs a Kellye in their life, especially during those tender, emotional early days of mommy and baby getting to know each other, and getting the hang of nursing. Thank you Kellye, we love you!

My experience with Kellye has been amazing. If it wasn’t for her, I would have given up on breastfeeding at the start. My nipples have deep linear inversions which makes it super painful every time my baby latches and on top of that, my baby had a tongue tie and a lip tie. Luckly, Kellye was able to help me get her ties released as soon as possible. After the release, I could already tell a difference in her latch and after two weeks, my baby’s latch was so much better. Kellye has come to my house four times and I look forward to it every time. She is such a joy to be around and so encouraging.

Initially, I didn’t think my baby had any major issues with feeding. I originally just scheduled with her to get rid of the nipple shield. Like magic — first time trying, he latched without it! After analyzing everything on my baby’s weight, birth, feeding, etc., Kellye noticed that he was dropping percentiles drastically. He went from the 50th percentile (at birth) to the 8th percentile. I would have never noticed because, to me, he was gaining & that’s all that mattered. Getting rid of the nipple shield, already improved his milk intake & I had never seen him so full & content. Although, my nipples were in excruciating pain to the point that I’d cry throughout feedings & my nipples were bleeding. I kept enduring through it because I thought it was normal without the shield. At our next visit she evaluated him further for ties & found that he had a significant upper lip tie, as well as, a tongue tie. She never pressured me to go through with the tie release but rather just explained the benefits of it for my baby & our breastfeeding journey. I knew that if I wanted to make it a year of breastfeeding happily, the release needed to happen. She walked us through the process & helped me feel so confident in doing what was best for my baby. Since seeing Kellye, he has jumped from the 8th percentile to the 65th. We went from 2/3 bottle per day to exclusively breastfeeding. Now I look forward to feeding him & feel so confident. I’ve been able to bond with him more than ever thanks to Kellye! She has saved my breastfeeding journey & I am forever grateful for her love & patience with my little family. I always look forward to seeing her. If I could, I would have her over everyday just to hang out & soak up all her knowledge. Truly a blessing in my life!

My baby and I did not get off to the start we expected. He was late term and spent 5 days in the NICU before coming home. While pumping so often and supplementing with formula was not my initial expectation, it quickly became our reality. I had scheduled an appointment with Kellye before I even had the baby, thank God! We worked through latch and supply issues. Our next visit, we talked about revising his tongue and lip tie. While we knew revision would probably be the case, she took her time to evaluate our situation to make sure revision was the best decision. She referred us to Dr. Kim, the pediatric dentist at Alden Bridge Pediatric Dentistry and they are AMAZING! Having Kellye with us through this process gave our family so much peace of mind. A couple weeks later, she followed up with us at a home visit and baby J was transferring enough to exclusively breast feed!!! While our journey was not what we anticipated, through Kellye’s support and coaching, we got to where we wanted to be! Even though we have made it to nursing, I know Kellye will always be there for us in the future.

Breastfeeding came perfectly naturally with my first child and was such a beautiful bonding experience for us. So, it came as a total shock when I had so much difficulty feeding my second child. His feedings were accompanied by screams, cries, tears — I could tell my baby was in pain, but I didn’t know what to do. I was confused, disappointed, frustrated and discouraged. I reached out to Kellye who came highly recommended by friends who had used her services before. It was at the very onset of the COVID pandemic, and I was limiting my family’s exposure to anyone outside of our household. My first encounter with Milk&Mom was on FaceTime. Kellye was kind, thorough, knowledgeable and reassuring–she made me feel very comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. She suspected my son might have a oral restrictions but couldn’t confirm without a physical exam. I took my son to his pediatrician that week and asked her to examine him. She took a quick glance and said he was fine and most likely was suffering from GERD and wrote a prescription. I couldn’t believe I was going to have to give my baby medicine just so he could eat without pain — and, unfortunately, after 2 weeks into it, the medicine did not seem to be helping much. Frustrated and feeling helpless, I took my baby for a walk and crossed paths with Kellye, who also happens to be a neighbor. I truly felt like God put her in my path that day. After hearing about how we were still struggling, she offered to sanitize, put on gloves and give my baby an exam on the spot. She very quickly confirmed that my baby had oral restrictions that were worth getting officially evaluated. I felt so relieved to have an answer! She was able to help me schedule a procedure to release the ties that very week and was there by my son and my side the whole time. She even made a house call afterward to help me figure out the best nursing position for my son. A week after the procedure, my son was a totally new baby. He was happy, he was smiling, he was sleeping better, he was not in pain. I am so thankful for Kellye and credit her entirely for my breastfeeding success. I don’t know what we would have done without her!

During pregnancy, I exuded confidence about breastfeeding. Surely it would come easy and natural for me, I thought, just have to want it bad enough and keep pushing through. My world changed December 24th 2022 when my son Shepard was born and I experienced an intense hemorrhage postpartum. My body has been depleted and was trying to replenish on top of healing and producing food for my baby. The first three weeks in my breast feeding journey were so lonely and hard. Something I thought would come so easy definitely did not and expectations were shattered! I was confused and unsure, second guessing everything and not understanding all the changes my body was going through. That is when I visited Kellye for the first time. I’ll never forget we were so late to our appointment because I hadn’t quite figured out how to get out of the house with a newborn, and she was incredibly gracious and understanding. Once we arrived I felt like I could breathe a sign of relief as she affirmed what we were doing right and gave us gentle tips on how to help. She listed to me as I shared my birth story and asked intentional questions about how I was doing emotionally! After that first appointment I knew I wanted to attend the weekly support group she hosts. That group has become my favorite part of the week! The mamas are amazing and it provides such a safe space to celebrate our victories and mourn our troubles. It has given me the strength to preserver through the difficulties of breastfeeding. Yes, Kellye has taught me so much about breastfeeding and lactation but more so, she has been a cheerleader in one of the most difficult seasons! Now my son and I have hit a stride with feeding and feel secure in our journey!

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL OTHER MOMS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY OR STRESS IN THEIR NURSING JOURNEY?

In stress or difficulty during breastfeeding I would tell other moms to find a support system. That has been crucial to our journey and pushing through the very heavy weight of feeding a whole human. Surround yourself with other moms and friends who encourage nursing and can reassure you when you question everything. I would also suggest finding a system that works best for you. Allow yourself the freedom to take a break when you need to, and cultivate around connecting with your baby rather than being successful. Also, consistency is key!

Before reaching out to Kellye, I felt hopeless. I was a new mom, sleep deprived and my concerns felt unheard and written off by our pediatrician because our baby was picking up weight, even though he was miserable and fussy all day long.
The first time meeting with Kellye she listened to me, encouraged me and we came up with an action plan to save my chances of breastfeeding (I was losing supply) and help my baby thrive.
I ended up nursing my son for 18months. If not for Kellye we would have given up in month for one.
I wouldn’t be the mom I am today was it not for her help and support.

Kellye was a pure blessing to my family in the first few months of our third, Josie, being born. I was so tired and convinced she would latch better soon. I just assumed I needed to push through the spitting up, holding to the notion all babies are different. At my Sip and See for Josie, hosted by Kellye, she noticed things weren’t right. After the party, with gentleness and confidence, she explained that Josie needed to be examined for a tongue tie. Kellye held my hand, caught my tears, and loved my baby as if she was her own over the next few weeks as Josie underwent a procedure and healed. I love breastfeeding and I am so thankful for Kellye. I fed Josie for a year with ease thanks to her insight, compassion, professionalism, and expertise…..but most of all her heart.

Being a first-time mother is overwhelming; and breastfeeding doesn’t always come as second nature as some claim it is. Without getting into all of the tiny details, I can say with confidence that Kellye changed our lives. We were able to breastfeed for 14 months, and although it was SNS-assisted, without Kellye – our breastfeeding journey would have severely suffered. It may not have existed at all. She was cheering with us through all of the accomplishments, but she also cried with me when I felt defeated. Kellye never made me feel like I was a failure, even when we knew our breastfeeding journey was going to look much different than most. I will forever be grateful for her sweet soul coming into our lives. Almost two years has passed since first meeting Kellye in The Baby Nest, and I still tell anyone who will listen how wonderful she is.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL OTHER MOMS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY OR STRESS IN THEIR NURSING JOURNEY?

You are enough. Your breastfeeding journey may look different than any that you’ve seen – and that is perfectly fine. All that matters is at the end of the day you know you did your absolute best for your baby. You are the perfect mother for your baby.

Before meeting Kellye, we could not breast feed without using a shield. I was in pain, had mastitis twice and dreaded nursing. We were referred to get a tongue and lip tie evaluation and that’s when we met Kellye. She is amazing! She listens to your every thought, answers every question, helps with every step and is just so kind and loving. She put my heart and mind at ease for getting a procedure done on my 6 week old and then was so patient and informative with helping me afterwards. I highly recommend Kellye and Milk and Mom! She was an answer to BIG prayers!

Validated is how I felt. I knew my baby was lip and tongue-tied, but no one would listen. Not even lactation consultants with 20+ years of experience. But Kellye came to my house and helped validate my concerns in a gentle and encouraging way. She gave some direction on how to proceed to getting Aislynn help.

There would’ve been no way I would have successfully been able to breast-fed had it not been for Kellye! I was so lost in the technique of how to feed Elliott and my milk production was slow to come in due to being on pitocin and magnesium. She came in and completely helped all of us and we had to supplement for 1 to 2 days with formula until my milk increased. Beyond that as a new mom the breast-feeding journey was so difficult so if it wasn’t for her being able to give me updated tips and her constant communication I wouldn’t have been able to make it to the six month mark. She is 100% the reason that I was able to breast-feed

I had a prior horrible breastfeeding experience with my first born who had a tongue tie, which led to me exclusively pumping and subsequent PPD from not bonding with my baby. I had seen several lactation consultants and found their advice impractical. His TT was revised without much improvement in nursing. When baby #2 was born, he also had a tongue tie. I was utterly devastated as he wasn’t transferring well. I posted in my local FB group asking for a lactation consultant who would work with me and offer practical advise. Kellye came highly recommended. She did an in home consultation and suggested correcting the TT with a new CO2 technology. She seemed to understand and observe my exhaustion as a mother to a newborn with feeding difficulty and a toddler, two kids under two. I was so glad I followed her advice. Baby #2 had TT revised at 12 days after birth and started transferring milk right away. My breastfeeding experience turned from a nightmare to a dream and I was able to enjoy holding him and feeding him. Kellye checked in on me from time to time. She was sympathetic, kind, empathic, calm, and optimistic. She was always accessible whenever I felt I was struggling, I was able to reach out to her directly. I highly recommend Kellye to anyone about to embark on a breastfeeding journey, especially first-time mamas. There are many IBCLCs out there but truly competent IBCLCs are few and far between. I was a complicated case and Kellye changed my life in a good way. I’m sure she will change yours as well!

After giving birth to my first son, my midwife saw that he had a tongue tie. We immediately called Alden Bridge Pediatric Dentistry to get an evaluation done on his second day of life. His latch was off and it was very painful trying to feed him. We met Kellye at our appointment where she listened and really embraced us with such warmth and encouragement during these very tender and uncertain moments. My son’s tongue tie was revised and we left confident of what we needed to do to have a successful journey of breastfeeding. In the weeks and months ahead I had access to Kellye and her wealth of knowledge for continual follow-up. Now we are a year and a half into our breastfeeding journey and I’m certain this would have been a much harder task not having the support and wisdom of Kellye from Milk & Mom.

Having support is so important during these early seasons of motherhood. You are individually and wonderfully equipped to provide everything that your baby needs but you also need support and nurturing yourself, as you are sacrificing and giving so much of who you are to your precious baby.

Kellye has quite possibly been the most vital person in my wife and sons breastfeeding journey. I came in skeptical of the process, but was quickly and utterly impressed by the wealth of knowledge she possessed. One session was all it took for my wife to see immediate change in how our son was able to properly latch and feed. My wife was overjoyed and felt some relief to finally get the help she deserved. Throughout all of our sessions, and outside of them as well, Kellye was able to provide the best guidance possible no matter what questions would arise.
Kellye’s knowledge is far from her greatest asset; she is one of the most kind and compassionate people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in all my years. She exudes a warmth and air about her that instantly made my wife feel at ease, and was able to instill a sense of calm and confidence that was sorely lacking from the nurses who attended to us in the hospital.
Lastly, the support group Kellye hosts (free of charge and open to all mothers I might add) has been another fantastic way for my wife and son to find their village of support through this new journey of our lives.
This woman is truly a miracle, and I can’t recommend her services enough to any mother and baby in need of lactation services.
